Have you ever thought about getting a tattoo? Would you get one for fun or with a meaning behind it? Most tattoos come with a story behind them. The majority of people get tattoos to express themselves personally, while others get a tattoo with a friend, family member, their partner, etc. One of our Freshman English teachers, Mrs. Pennington, and Senior Brendolyn Castillo have a tattoo with a very special story behind them. Mrs. Pennington got a tattoo with one of her best friends last November.
She got one with her because they’re ‘ride or die’ friends, and her friend was having a really tough week and life had seemed to be weighing her down. “So I told her to meet me at a tattoo shop in Tulsa after school one evening.” They always send the double heart emoji to each other when they text. “ We both got the double heart emoji tattooed on our wrists as a symbol that, no matter how tough life gets, we’ll always have each other’s backs. We both thought we were so tough for getting those small tattoos on our wrists!” They will show people their tattoos and joke around by telling them not to mess with them. Still to this day they think it’s hilarious for how they used to act so tough over their tiny tattoo. While Mrs. Pennington got a tattoo with her best friend, Brendolyn Castillo got one to honor her brother, Britain, who passed away from leukemia.
He was only 20 years old when he was diagnosed with it, he fought it through, but then it came back later on. About 6 months after his passing, she got this tattoo. It was her first ever tattoo. Brendolyns tattoo is angel wings with a halo above it, and it has Britians name below it and the date he had passed. She didn’t plan on this being her first tattoo, but she loved the way it had turned out. Her mom, sister, and her two other brothers all have the same tattoo. “Every time I look down at my arm, it reminds me that he’s always watching over me, and if I’m ever stressed out, I just put my hand over it and think about all the advice he’s ever given me.” “He was such a well-spoken person, and sometimes it was hard to talk to him because of how much older he was than me, but he always gave me the best advice.” He always made everyone laugh, and made sure everyone was doing okay. He was the strongest person she had ever known besides herself. Brendolyn is also thinking about looking into getting more tattoos about him in the future. Over all, tattoos can have a really personal meaning behind them, and you never know what that person went through before getting their tattoo.
