Poteau wrestling is moving on to the state tournament for the second time in PHS history and the first time since 1999 Poteau wrestling is emerging as a powerhouse in the Oklahoma wrestling scene having won several matchups and left a mark in tournaments like the Geary Invitational and dual matchups. January 5th, boys wrestling went to the Geary Invitational, the nation’s oldest wrestling tournament standing at over 80 years old. “There were a lot of hard competitions, lots of different state champs competing” senior Luke Brooks fought hard to claim silver at the tournament. After losing the first place title to an OU commit, Luke was challenged for second place and went on to beat his opponent 6-to-5 claiming second. “I feel good about this season and am happy with where we are… the success absolutely comes from Coach K. He has done a great job rebuilding the program and getting the others invested,” Coach K has been wrestling since he was “About seven or eight,” and coaching at Poteau for the past several years. “As a coach, I try to approach wrestling as a team sport” comments Coach K. ” It’s a lot about moving up and down in weight classes, everybody has to know what their job is and where they need to get to.” Poteau’s well-known competitive culture applies to wrestling with the team’s goal of “just be hard to beat,” says Coach K.
Good luck to Wrestling at Dual State.
