Here at Poteau High School, our students are involved in many activities. Sophomore Tory Phillips is involved in Color Guard along with other activities. “I decided to join the color guard because I liked to dance and I thought it looked fun.” “My favorite thing about color guard is going to football games and the competitions, and having fun with my friends.” Recently Tory competed in the first winter guard competition of their season and they placed third out of twenty-two teams! While being in guard Tory has had an immaculate experience. “My favorite thing Poteau offers is probably Color Guard. I have met amazing people and many new friends.” Poteau High School has given Tory an amazing opportunity that she has enjoyed very much. Tory enjoys being in guard and how all of the hard work pays off. “It takes a lot of hard work and dedication, but it’s all worth it. It’s scary at first but you will get used to dropping flags on your face.” In addition to guard, Tory is involved in FFA. “I decided to join FFA because my siblings and cousins were in it, so I grew up with it.” “My favorite thing about FFA is taking care of the animals.” Before starting high school, Tory set a few goals for herself. “One of my goals is to keep straight A’s, and so far I have accomplished it.” For the next two years, Tory still wants to maintain good grades and enjoy high school while it lasts. “ I plan on studying and working hard. I also want to enjoy my last years of school, so I want to make sure I still have fun with friends.” High school won’t be the end of her education journey, though. “My plans after high school are to go to college, and become a physical therapist assistant.” For Tory, high school isn’t just about academics and organizations. “My favorite thing so far is having off campus lunch.”
