Hello Pirates, this is the fall and winter update for the academic team! Last month the team finished first in districts and so are one of the top teams that will be competing in the regional tournament. The regional tournament will be held here in Poteau on the 17th of November, and 10 schools will be participating. Two of the teams competing on the 17th will advance to the area competition. The team has been going strong, so there’s a good outlook for the future! The two teams that win in the area competition will advance to state. Poteau has gotten to state five years in a row, and they’re going to make that six! No other state has done this in the 4A class, but Poteau’s teams have always been go-getters, so let’s cheer them on!
The team is really promising this year and has got some awesome folk on it, the team leader is senior Kiah King, and one of the top point scorers is junior Mahala Latta. The other varsity team members are John Thompson, Tony Lanuza, and Jonathon Baeza. The JV team has a ton of younger players who are already promising as well, the other schools better watch out in the coming years!
Right now the team’s focus is getting to state, and with the team they have they’re certain to get there. Let’s keep rooting for them and hoping for the best, go Pirates and best of luck to our academic team!
