An hour and a half east of Los Angeles rests the city of Riverside, California. Sophomore Carla Martinez and her family were supposed to be a part of the 321,000 people living there but landed here in Poteau. Although, Martinez and her 5 siblings took a break from The Sooner State, moving to Mexico and living there for 3 years. “It was very different from the United States. School was much smaller and there was lots of freedom compared to the US. There’s not many laws and jobs there.”
Carla’s favorite memory from her childhood is when she would play outside with her siblings and cousins doing fun activities. She really values her family, especially her parents. She also values her home, stating that it is her favorite place to be. At her house, she loves to sleep. She also loves to ride her dirt bike.
Martinez currently plays soccer for the school. When she graduates, she plans to go into the medical field and study to become an obstetrician-gynecologist, or OBGYN, at Portland university. Once she graduates from college, she plans to move to the outside of a city-type environment.
