When is it okay to start celebrating Christmas?

People of Poteau give their take on when its okay to put up the three
When is it okay to start celebrating Christmas?

With Thanksgiving officially behind us, we now look onward to the rest of 2023  marked by the Christmas season. More than two billion people choose to celebrate Christmas each year which makes it the world’s biggest and most culturally important holiday. With so many celebrations around the globe, cultures have a variety of ways and disagreements on how to celebrate Good Saint Nick Day; however the dominant argument is, “When is it okay to start celebrating? ”Some people, like Senior Lesley Correa, enjoy lightening the mood with some early Christmas celebrations. “Before Thanksgiving but still the week of, it helps me get into the spirit.” However there are anti early-christmas extremists such as sophomore Mason Honeycutt: “People can celebrate around December 10th,”. While many others believe in following the calendar and abiding by a monthly guideline, “Tree up in December… Because it’s when Christmas is, any earlier and I’ll get mad.” says Kaydence West. As for the military’s opinion, Marine Private Nick Garcua believes in true american freedom “Civilians can put the tree up whenever they feel like it, November for me though”

However, some people believe in letting the Christmas spirit run free. Rachel Hackler had this to say, “I always put my tree up the weekend before thanksgiving. I think we shouldn’t be stealing other people’s joy; let them put up their tree and celebrate whenever they want.”

While the world may never agree on what day to begin the festivities it is important to remember what the holidays are all about; love. If your neighbor across the street wants to string up the Christmas lights a few days before thanksgiving, then let them. And if you want to put your tree up, don’t force your co-workers to go caroling down the halls.
