From fall plays to spring musicals, the thespians program hosts some of the most visible events on campus, giving students a platform to explore acting, technical theater, and storytelling. “I’ve always wanted to act and be on a stage since I was young, and Poteau felt like the right stage.” Quotes junior Chloe Jager. With the spring musical now wrapped up, the program is beginning to wind down while also reflecting on the work that went into the production.
In addition to performances, thespians participate in a range of activities throughout the year. Many of these events take place in different locations across Oklahoma. These can include attending workshops, competing at theater festivals, and preparing individual events such as monologues or technical presentations. Students often have opportunities to receive feedback from judges or professionals, which helps them improve their skills in a more professional setting. Leadership is also part of the program. Officers help out when needed and assist with basic organization,
With the musical finished, some students are already looking back at their favorite parts of this program. “My favorite part of thespians is getting to know Mrs. Smedley and being on her good side after 3 years of trying.” Says junior Chloe Jager. Some students are already looking ahead to next year’s productions, while others are preparing for end-of-year events like inductions. During induction 9 of our highschoolers are getting inducted. These events recognize new members and highlight the work students have put in throughout the year, bringing the season to a close while setting the stage for what comes next.
